Tranquil Crossings is now able to offer acupuncture for your furry loved ones. Dr. Goodsell is continually aiming to provide the best end of life care for all pets. In obtaining her certification in Veterinary Medical Acupuncture, Dr. Goodsell is now able to provide a non-pharmaceutical approach to helping your pet. Acupuncture sometimes is a stand-alone treatment but often is an additional way to help manage different diseases, especially pain associated with osteoarthritis or degenerative joint disease. Dr. Goodsell’s certification is through CuraCore.
What is Acupuncture?
Simply put, acupuncture is the placement of small gauge needles into the layers of tissue and muscle to cause and effect on the nervous system and local tissue.
What is Medical Acupuncture?
This type of acupuncture utilizes scientific knowledge based on repeated research demonstrating successful treatment with specific acupuncture points. Additionally, the doctor is trained in myofascial palpation to find trigger points in muscles or taught bands of tissue that are causing pain and tension.
What is ElectroAcupuncture?
This technique involves the use of certain electrical frequencies attached to acupuncture needles to stimulate nerves and surrounding tissue to alleviate a patient’s symptoms. It is another option for certain ailments, and not every pet would be a candidate for this method. The doctor will discuss this in more detail during an acupuncture session.
Will my pet always need acupuncture?
It depends. Some diseases are chronic in nature and will always need acupuncture to help with comfort, like osteoarthritis. Other diseases that are temporary, only need acupuncture to support until the illness can be resolved.
What can I expect?
During your initial acupuncture appointment, your pet will receive a physical examination, myofascial exam and recording a video of their gait. This recording will allow the doctor to review problems in slow motion and show signs of improvement with follow up videos. Acupuncture changes with the patient’s needs. Some days, some pets will only allow 3 needles to be placed and other days some pets will allow 30 needles to be placed. The number of needles placed does not dictate the success of a treatment. The doctor will treat the most problematic issue first and continue as the patient tolerates.

Lola’s Healing Experience with Acupuncture
Dr. Goodsell took on our 14 year old greyhound Lola as a hospice patient in July 2024 and after adjusting her meds and getting her pain very well under control, we started acupuncture in early 2025 to try giving Lola added pain relief and increased neurological function. After the first 2 treatments Lola was visibly standing taller and picking up food off the floor which hadn’t happened in months. Each subsequent treatment yielded additional benefits including curing the muscle cramping happening in her thighs and allowing her to begin doing downward dog stretches and play bowing again. Lola had been getting acupuncture from a previous practitioner prior to hospice care and we never saw benefits like we did with Dr. Goodsell. Her technique and dedication to patient comfort are truly impressive.
